The Opportunity

Are you an Associate or Associate Director looking for a new challenge and wanting to progress your career? At Urban Change, you’ll not only have the opportunity to make the most of your existing professional expertise but you will be joining a start-up business and this will broaden your professional horizons and create exciting new possibilities.

We are a multidisciplinary consultancy with a focus on delivering a resilient and sustainable built environment. We work internationally, across a range of development projects and in the provision of strategic advisory services to our client organisations.

We are looking for someone to grow and lead our fire consultancy services and within 12-24 months, become a Director of the practice.

About the Role

If you are looking for a typical week, you should probably look elsewhere. Although your primary responsibility will be to provide commercial and technical leadership for our fire consultancy service line, you will need to play an active role in the growth and development of the business as a whole. You will be responsible for building a team with outstanding and unrivalled professional capability at a time when the construction and property industries need experience, expertise and new ideas like never before. You will be working alongside our founding Directors to build long term relationships with clients who share our vision and appreciate our practice principles. You will be delivering projects in the UK and further afield, so you need international experience, exceptional consulting skills and when it is safe to do so, be willing to travel.

Who should apply?

Firstly, make sure you fit our Top 5 needs which apply to all the roles we advertise:

  • Passionate
  • Collaborator
  • Goal orientated
  • Integrity
  • Creative

For this particular role, you will need outstanding project and team leadership skills, have significant international consulting experience and be a true fire engineering professional. We are looking for someone who can help our clients identify and mitigate risks at a project and enterprise level. You need to be comfortable advising on fire risks at all stages in the life cycle of built assets and in the application of fire engineering from first principles. As a practice we write industry standards and guidance, we have regard for standards and guidance but we are not blinded by standards and guidance. We expect our people to develop options and by working collaboratively with all stakeholders, find the right solutions for the specific needs of each project.

To be able to perform in this role, you will most likely have at least 15 years experience, be educated to Masters Degree level and either be a Chartered Engineer or at an advanced stage in your application for Chartered status. You will need to be a British or European citizen and hold a full driving licence.
